Still Life With Porcelain Birds, Cyclamen And Pomegranates Oil on canvas, 80 × 100.1 cm, 2025
This vibrant still life: Porcelain Birds and Pomegranates, is one of my most joyful and symbolic paintings from recent months. Set against a luminous turquoise-blue background, the composition overflows with life, color, and quiet meaning.
At the heart of the scene are delicate porcelain birds perched among blooming cyclamen flowers in shades of deep pink, magenta, and coral. Ripe red pomegranates sit beside a small golden vessel and scattered blossoms, while two little birds add a sense of movement and presence. The bold turquoise waves and strong pink accents create a dynamic yet harmonious balance between energy and calm.
I painted this piece with thick, expressive brushwork — some areas are energetic and directional, while others remain softer and more delicate. This contrast reflects the themes I wanted to explore: the vitality and fragility of nature, the idea of abundance, fertility, and renewal that pomegranates traditionally symbolize, and the gentle beauty we find in everyday domestic objects.
Working from my studio in Ljubljana, I continue to draw inspiration from classical still life traditions while infusing them with my own contemporary optimism and vibrant color palette.
